How hypnosis works
All of us enter into hypnosis every day of our lives, such as when daydreaming or deeply absorbed in an activity to the exclusion of everything else. Basically, hypnosis is deep relaxation or absorption. Hypnosis works by achieving a deep relaxation that enables communication with your sub-conscious mind. This is often referred to as "trance". In this state you are still awake and aware of your mind and body but feel deeply relaxed and receptive to positive suggestions. Hypnotherapy is a means of using hypnosis in a therapeutic setting. Provided that a client has the willingness to succeed a hypnotherapist can help them overcome a variety of negative habits, behaviours and beliefs.
Hypnotherapy is now recognised as a modern and very effective therapy that can help people to transform their lives. So many problems in life have their roots in our sub-conscious mind: habits, anxiety, phobias, emotional problems etc. Our ways of thinking and behaving are often automatic; unfortunately this can cause real problems in life when negative habits and behaviours become deep rooted. By removing negative beliefs and behaviour patterns, and by helping a client to adopt positive attitudes and beliefs at a sub-conscious level, a skilled hypnotherapist is able to significantly improve a client's ability to make the most of their life.
Suggestion, imagination, belief...
Hypnosis is ruled by suggestion. "Trance" is simply a means of relaxing the client so that they are receptive to positive suggestions. The word "trance" often gives the wrong impression. Have you ever been so absorbed in something that you are oblivious to what is going on around you? Ever got home but didn't remember driving those last few roads? You were on "auto-pilot", still in control, but absorbed in something in your mind.
If someone suggests to themselves they are stupid, imagine themselves failing an exam and fully believing that to be true it is highly likely they will fail! Without realising it they are practising negative hypnosis and programming themselves to fail. Negative "self-talk" is one of the main causes of anxiety and low confidence. In hypnosis clients are able to learn how to use positive visualisations and positive self-talk to change their outlook on life.
When clients are in a relaxed state they are ore open to positive suggestions. I suggest to clients to imagine themselves coping and succeeding in situations when they previously believed the worst. In a relatively short time clients discover new possibilities and a new belief in themselves. They can imagine and truly believe in a better future. All through the power of hypnosis.
